The BAE is a model railroad representing a fictional narrow gauge line connecting with other railroads of the same gauge in the Harz mountains in northern Germany. The gauge of 22.2 millimeters is called 0m which means meter gauge in 1:45 proportion (0 scale in central Europe).

While the theme is european the layout is entirely american. How that?
It’s mainly the design principles as walk around, linear single track point to point design with once through a scene concept, super long peninsula with split level construction (inverted mushroom), interchange with other lines of the same gauge etc. that are relatively unknown on the old continent, at least not applied very often but state of the art in America.
But also the prototype freelance approach based on thourough studies of the metre gauge railroads of the region (alive and abandoned ones) as well as the terrain where the line should be designed in are principles the builder of the layout learned from american model railroaders (see chapter „My formation and philosophy“)
And of course the layout is designed for operation. We have an operation scheme very similar to the time table and train order system controlled by a dispatcher. See chapter „Operation“
